Abstract:

Oil-contaminated beach sediments were incubated in the laboratory for weight loss analyses under atmospheric exposure.

Purpose:

These measurements were done to assess weight loss rates of the oil contaminated beach sands. The weight loss is caused by evaporation of volatile hydrocarbons, water and also caused by microbial degradation of hydrocarbons.

Weight (g), incubation time [1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months].

Methods:

Weight loss was determined using a Mettler scale with a resolution of 0.001 g

Error Analysis:

The QA/QC protocol eliminated all data where weight increased due to sample contamination by moisture
