Abstract:

The purpose of the dataset is to assess the water quality and petrochemical contamination in the Northern Gulf of Mexico and to assess the immediate and long-term ecosystem impacts due to hydrocarbons derived from the DwH oil spill. Provide a near-real time and archived characterization of surface currents with high frequency (3-50 MHz) radar (HFR) in the northern Gulf of Mexico shelf region west of the Mississippi Birdfoot delta to assist emergency responders and to understand mortality events, maintain CODAR stations for the Central Gulf of Mexico Ocean Observing System (CenGOOS).
