Abstract:
In an effort to clarify the oil transport better, and to validate the oil spill simulations of Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, a database based on the Shoreline Cleanup and Assessment Techniques (SCAT) surveys has been created. Eleven regions of interests were identified and timelines were developed for each region for additional analysis.

Purpose:
The Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Techniques (SCAT) dataset between May and September of 2010 showed the oiling conditions in coastal Louisiana after the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. It identified the heavy oil trouble spots for the cleaning efforts. Also, it helped validating our oil spill model.
Data Parameters and Units:
SCAT-LA-OilObsRegions.txt - observations extracted from shapefiles and binned into regions and divided into 9 oil order categories (heavy oiling, moderate oiling, light oiling, very light oiling, trace oiling with heavy tarballs, trace oiling with moderate tarballs, trace oiling with light tarballs, trace oiling with negligible tarballs and no observed oil). Record number, surveyID, date, time, oil category code, oil order, region number. regionsLonLat.txt - Coordinate boundaries of the regions studied [1. Chandeleur Islands, 2. Eastern Biloxi Marsh, 3.
