Abstract:

The purpose of this dataset was to examine: 1) if Corexit alone in the water at 0.0, 0.3, 3.0 and 100 mg/l concentrations elicits toxicity; 2) if direct contact to mousse or non-contact with mousse with water as the intermediate interface with embryos influences toxicity to the mousse and 3) to determine if Corexit concentration influences the mortality for either exposure modality. Mortality was not significantly increased by increasing concentrations of Corexit from 0.0 to 100 mg / l. Mortality was much higher for the direct contact exposures than the non-contact exposures during the 192 hour observation interval. This relates to a greater toxicity of direct contact exposures. Corexit did not alter the low 192 hr mortality incidence for non-contact exposures but was altered at the highest Corexit concentration of 100mg/ l.

Sample ID; Direct Con: Direct Contact- Mousse- 250mg/buttered on 16cm2 cup bottom-Embryos rested directly on the mousse for all Corexit co-exposures (in water) of 0.0, 0.3, 3.0 and 100mg/l; Non Con: Indirect Contact Exposures- Mousse- 250mg/buttered on 16cm2 cup bottom. Mousse exposure occurred via the water only (embryos suspended above mousse) for all Corexit co-exposures (in water) of 0, 0.3, 3.0 and 100 mg/l; Cor Only: contact with Corexit only; Concen: Corexit concentrations (0.0, 0.3, 3.0, and 100 mg/L); Control: No Mousse exposure- either by direct contact or indirectly [water]-For these treatments there were no Corexit exposures as well-Controls for all treatments and exposures; Rep: Replicate (1, 2, 3); Pct mortality: Percent mortality (%).
