Abstract:

Dataset examines the developmental abnormalities of DWH mousse and Corexit in a dispersant dose response experimental design. This study shows that Corexit elicited no added developmental toxicity as compared to controls (no Corexit: no mousse). The mousse on the other hand clearly elicited developmental toxicity in embryos exposed to mousse both by direct contact and non-contact exposures. Direct contact exposures as found with substrate breeding fishes was more effective in eliciting developmental toxicity from DWH mousse than non-contact waterborne exposures. This direct contact response was a largely independent of Corexit concentration except at the highest Corexit concentration. Corexit on the other hand influenced the incidence of abnormalities for non-contact exposures.

Purpose:

To determine if Corexit alone or in combination with mousse will cause developmental abnormalities in contact and non-contact exposures.

Data Parameters and Units:

Sample ID; Direct Con: Direct Contact- Mousse- 250mg/buttered on 16cm2 cup bottom-Embryos rested directly on the mousse for all Corexit co-exposures (in water) of 0.0, 0.3, 3.0 and 100mg/l; Non Con: Indirect Contact Exposures- Mousse- 250mg/buttered on 16cm2 cup bottom. Mousse exposure occurred via the water only (embryos suspended above mousse) for all Corexit co-exposures (in water) of 0, 0.3, 3.0 and 100 mg/l; Cor Only: contact with Corexit only; Concen: Corexit concentrations (0.0, 0.3, 3.0, and 100 mg/L); Control: No Mousse exposure- either by direct contact or indirectly [water]-For these treatments there were no Corexit exposures as well-Controls for all treatments and exposures; Rep: Replicate (1, 2, 3); Pct abnormal: Percent abnormal (%).
