Abstract:

This dataset includes survey tracks, sighting datasheets, image files, spatial geolog files, photo-id catalog data, and field identification images for dolphins surveyed.

Purpose:

To catalog dolphin sightings before and after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Data Parameters and Units:

This dataset gives all survey data and sighting information for dolphins observed during November 2010 through July 2011. This dataset reports date, time, sighting number, image side (R = Right and L = Left), latitude (decimal degrees), longitude (decimal degrees), and fin feaures. This dataset also reports Survey number, area of sighting [DST(Destin), DST-CBAY(Destin to Choctawhatchee Bay), CBAY(Choctawhatchee Bay), CBAY-East(East Choctawhatchee Bay), LPB(Lower Pensacola Bay), WCBAY(West Choctawhatchee Bay), SRS-East(East Santa Rosa Sound), SRS-LPB(Santa Rosa Sound to Lower Pensacola Bay), SRS(Santa Rosa Sound), PCO, DST-GOM(Destin to Gulf of Mexico), BWR, Perdido, Cinco, DST-GLF, OB, SRS-DST, SRS-BYU, DST1, DST2, and PNS], number of sightings (#SIGHTS), number of dolphins (#DOLS), number of calves (#CALVES), number of young of the year (#YOYS), total time, total distance, focal time, focal distance, number of photos (#PHOTOS), notes, location, site, and season (W-winter, P-spring, S-summer, F-fall).
