Abstract:

Dataset contains measurements of biomarkers of exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in pelagic teleosts and sharks collected from the northern Gulf of Mexico, 2010-2012.

Purpose:

Dataset was developed to examine PAH exposure in pelagic teleosts and sharks in order to identify effects of the Deepwater Horizon Oil spill on these fishes.

Methods:

Hepatic activity of the PAH-metabolizing enzyme, cytochrome P4501a1, was measured in S9 fractions of liver using the EROD assay. Relative levels of naphthalene-, pyrene-, and benzo(a)pyrene-like metabolites in bile were measured using fixed fluorescence.
