Abstract:

This dataset contains water temperature, salinity, oxygen, and other parameters collected by CTD from research vessel Pelican in Gulf of Mexico from 2019-06-14 to 2019-10-03. Hydrographic data were collected on the deployment cruise of an array of moored instrumentation and on a mid-experiment telemetry cruise. These data were collected to calibrate the travel time measurements of the moored current- and pressure-recording inverted echo sounders. Some instrument sites were visited more than once on each cruise. The data are in NetCDF format. Purpose:

Hydrographic data were collected on the deployment cruise and a mid-experiment telemetry cruise from an array of moored instrumentation. These data were collected to calibrate the travel time measurements of the moored current- and pressure-recording inverted echo sounders.

Data Parameters and Units:

Time relative to 00:00:00 1 January 2019 (UTC, [days]), latitude [decimal degrees N], longitude [decimal degrees E], hydrostatic pressure [dbar], water temperature [degrees Celsius], salinity [psu], conductivity [microsiemens/cm], oxygen [mg/l], fluorescence, and beam attenuation [1/m].

Methods:

CTD data were acquired with a Sea-Bird Scientific SBE 911 CTD instrument package. Data were processed with Sea-Bird Scientific's software Version Seasave V 7.26.7.107. Data were bin averaged in 2 m bins on the deployment cruise and in 2 dbar bins on the telemetry cruise.

Instruments:

The Sea-Bird Scientific SBE 911 is a combination of the SBE 9 Underwater Unit and SBE 11 Deck Unit. The SBE 9 uses Sea-Bird's standard modular temperature and conductivity sensors (SBE 3 and SBE 4). This SBE 9 CTD was also configured with auxiliary sensors to measure dissolved oxygen, fluorescence and beam attenuation.
