Abstract:

This dataset contains water temperature, salinity, oxygen, and other parameters collected by CTD from R/V Pelican in the Gulf of Mexico from 2020-09-25 to 2020-10-04. Variables include pressure, temperature, salinity, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen. The data are in NetCDF format. Associated data are available in datasets U1.x852.000:0003 (doi: 10.7266/K4ZF1T9Z; currents), U1.x852.000:0005 (doi: 10.7266/4B13NKBA, vertical acoustic travel time), and U1.x852.000:0004 (doi: 10.7266/BZ9B3C54; bottom pressure and temperature).

Purpose:

Hydrographic data were collected on a mid-experiment telemetry cruise from an array of moored instrumentation. These data were collected to calibrate the travel time measurements of the moored current- and pressure-recording inverted echo sounders.

Data Parameters and Units:

time relative to 00:00:00 1 January 2019 (UTC, [days]), hydrostatic pressure [dbar], water temperature [degrees Celsius], salinity [psu], conductivity [microsiemens/cm], and oxygen [mg/l]

Methods:

CTD data were acquired with a Sea-Bird Scientific SBE 911 CTD instrument package. Data were processed with Sea-Bird Scientific's software Version Seasave V 7.26.7.107. Data were bin averaged in 2 dbar bins.

Instruments:

The Sea-Bird Scientific SBE 911 is a combination of the SBE 9 Underwater Unit and SBE 11 Deck Unit. The SBE 9 uses Sea-Bird's standard modular temperature and conductivity sensors (SBE 3 and SBE 4). This SBE 9 CTD was also configured with an auxiliary sensor to measure dissolved oxygen.
