Abstract:

This dataset contains image data of bubble size measurements in bubble plumes that were generated using two different diffusers. The image data were taken using a high-speed camera using a back-lit configuration in a laboratory water tank. The bubble plumes were generated using an air-stone diffuser and with a single-orifice diffuser, at two different gas flow rates. Purpose:

This dataset was collected to understand the behaviors of bubble plumes under different bubble size distributions and population.

Data Parameters and Units:

The data are organized in five directories: AS_Q1 and AS_Q2 contain images of bubble plumes generated with the air-stone diffuser at 0.25 L/min and 1.20 L/min gas flow rates, respectively. SO_Q1 and SO_Q2 contain images of the plumes generated with a single-orifice diffuser, at 0.25 L/min and 1.20 L/min, respectively. The final directory contains an image for size reference.

Methods:

Images were captured in a laboratory tank, 1 m x 1 m x 1.1 m deep, filled with fresh water. A LED light was used to backlight the bubble plume and create a shadowgraph type image. Both the air-stone (AS) and single orifice (SO) diffusers were run at 0.25 L/min and 1.20 L/min. Images were captured with a Phantom Miro M340 camera (Vision Research, Inc.)
