Abstract:

This data set includes ECOTRAN food web model parameters for the Gulf of Mexico Deep Sea Ecosystem Model. The food web model is vertically integrated from the surface epipelagic to the upper bathypelagic depth zones. Functional groups include bacteria, gelatinous zooplankton, crustacean zooplankton, myctophid fishes, large piscivorous fishes, sea birds, and marine mammals. For each functional group, a set of parameters are provided: biomass (wet weight mt/km2/yr), annual production rate, consumption rate, ecotrophic efficiency, diet matrix, fisheries landings, and detritus fate.

Purpose:

This file contains the parameterized and fully-resolved, vertically integrated ECOTRAN model and depth sub-models with all relevant sources.

Data Parameters and Units:

Biomass (wet weight mt/km2/yr), annual production rate, consumption rate, ecotrophic efficiency, diet matrix, fisheries landings, and detritus fate. More specific unit information is detailed in each table.

Methods:

Tables 2, 3, and 5 were used as inputs to the model code located in ECOTRAN vertically-resolved end-to-end ecosystem model for the Gulf of Mexico: model code (R6.x815.000:0018). Production matrices (tables 7-11) are outputs from the model. The depth sub-model production matrices were calculated using the vertical distribution of biomasses detailed in table 6. Depth sub-model diet matrices were calculated from consumption matrices based on the sub-model production matrices in tables 8-11. Remaining tables (1, 4, 16-19) detail the data sources and calculations used to achieve the model parameters in tables 2 and 3.
