Abstract:

This dataset includes the CTD data collected aboard R/V Point Sur cruise PS18-25 in the northern Gulf of Mexico from 2018-05-18 to 2018-05-21 at four sampling stations. The purpose of this cruise was to collect undisturbed sediment cores from areas to the south and southeast of the Deepwater Horizon spill site. The CTD data include temperature, conductivity, salinity, beam attenuation and transmission, depth, density, sound velocity, and oxygen concentration.

Purpose:

Collect undisturbed sediment cores from areas to the south and southeast of the Deepwater Horizon spill site.

Data Parameters and Units:

Date (MM/DD/YYYY), time (HH:MM:SS.SSS), latitude and longitude (decimal degrees), conductivity (S/m and mS/cm), density (kg/m^3), sound velocity (Chen-Millero, m/s), oxygen concentration (instrument: SBE 43; mg/l), depth (m), descent rate (m/s), beam attenuation (instrument: WET Labs C-Star, 1/m), beam transmission, WET Labs C-Star (instrument: WET Labs C-Star, %), potential temperature (ITS-90; degrees C), practical salinity (PSU), temperature (ITS-90; degrees C). Station coordinates: CTD1: 28.714159, - 88.25720983 CTD2: 28.22198, - 88.132515 CTD3: 28.5766963, - 87.843513 CTD4: 27.50733383, - 86.2717743 CTD20(91.3).cnv, CTD20(100).cnv and CTD2.cnv are the same raw data for station 2 processed differently for light attenuation at 91.3% and 100% for clear water. CTD4100.cnv and CTD4.cnv are data from the same CTD case 4. One is calculated to 100% as clear water for beam attenuation and CD4.cnv is calculated for 91.3% as the maximum for beam attenuation in clear water.
