Abstract:

Phytoplankton alters their photosynthetic ability and their abundance to changing environmental conditions. These alterations were monitored by Phyto-PAM (Pulse Amplitude Modulated) fluorometer in this dataset and contain the data on alpha (light-harvesting ability), relative electron transport rates (rETRmax), relative abundance (Fo), and Fv/Fm (maximum quantum yield) respectively.

Purpose:

To understand the effects of water-accommodated fraction (WAF) and water-soluble fraction (WSF) on phytoplankton growth and physiology.

Data Parameters and Units:

The analysis was adjusted for chlorophyll concentration with the help of the Gain function in Phyto-Win software. Using Phyto-Win software (version 2.13), alpha (light-harvesting ability), relative electron transport rates (rETRmax), relative abundance (Fo), and Fv/Fm (maximum quantum yield) were determined for each sample. Alpha [Light-harvesting ability; µmol e-1. µmol -1 photons]; Relative electron transport rates [rETRmax; µmol e- m-2. sec-1]; Relative abundance [Fo; relative fluorescence]; Fv/Fm [Maximum quantum yield; Relative fluorescence].

Methods:

Samples (5 mL) were collected at the same time as the bacterial community samples and dark-adapted for 15 min. Using Phyto-Win software (version 2.13), Fo, Fv/Fm, rETRmax, and α were determined for each sample. The latter two parameters were derived from rapid light curves produced using 11 steps of increasing the light intensity from 16 to 764 µmol photons m-2 s-1. Natural cultures from the Gulf of Mexico were used in the experiment. For the details on the analysis of photosynthetic performance, please refer to Kamalanathan et al., (2016).
