Abstract:

Methods:

Using a magnetic tweezers system, we developed an in vitro method to evaluate the stickiness (adhesive force) of EPS with quantitative force and desired environmental parameters, to understand the early stages of biofilm and marine snow formation. Two parameters, time-lapse and designed force, were applied to measure the stickiness of EPS extracted from Coccolithophore, Amphora sp., and Sagittula stellata.
