Abstract:

This dataset contains hepatic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) concentrations in red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) collected aboard multiple research and fishing vessels (R/V Weatherbird II, F/V Brandy, F/V Pisces, F/V Sea Fox) in the Gulf of Mexico from 2011-07-07 to 2017-07-30. PAHs were extracted from homogenized liver tissues using QuEChERS EMR (Agilent Technologies, Bond Elut) and confirmed and quantified using an Agilent’s 7890B gas chromatograph (GC) coupled to a 7010 tandem mass spectrometer (MS/MS) operating in multiple reactions mode (MRM). The dataset includes the date, location of sampling collection sites, and concentration of various PAHs in liver tissue in nanogram per gram of wet weight.

Purpose:

Data were collected as part of the C-IMAGE Gulf-wide surveys in order to characterize the impacts of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on benthic species.

Data Parameters and Units:

Cruise, Vessel (F/V Sea Fox, F/V Pisces, F/V Brandy, R/V Weatherbird II), Principal Investigator (Steven A. Murawski), Month (MM), Day (DD), Year (YYYY), Lat (Latitude in decimal degrees), Long (Longitude in decimal degrees), Species name (Red Snapper), Transect #, Station #, Fish ID, PAHs concentrations (concentration of various polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in nanogram per gram of wet weight). Please note: Zeros indicate levels were below the method detection limits. Dataset also includes the cruise documentation for the F/V Pisces (2011-07-13 to 2011-08-04), F/V Brandy (2011-07-07 to 2011-08-07), F/V Sea Fox (2011-07-27), and R/V Weatherbird II (WB1304 - 2010-08-16 to 2012-08-23; WB1403 -2013-08-21 to 2013-08-26; C-BASS - 2014-05-08; WB1502 - 2014-08-16 to 2014-08-23; WB1602 - 2015-08-20 to 2015-08-29; WB1603 - 2015-09-17 to 2015-09-21; WB1701 - 2016-08-13 to 2016-09-06; WB1736 - 2017-07-28 to 2017-07-30) cruises led by chief scientists Dr. Steven Murawski and Dr. David Hollander.

Methods:

PAHs were extracted from homogenized liver tissues using QuEChERS EMR (Agilent Technologies, Bond Elut) and confirmed and quantified using gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC–MS/MS).

Instruments:

Extracts were analyzed using Agilent’s 7890B gas chromatograph (GC) coupled to a 7010 tandem mass spectrometer (MS/MS) operating in multiple reactions mode (MRM).
