Abstract:

The solubility of methane in Louisiana Sweet Crude oil (LSC) was determined at 20 °C at varying pressures between 3 and 16 MPa. The gas saturation was determined gravimetrically, using a microbalance for detecting the gas uptake of the liquid phase at given pressure and temperature until equilibrium was reached.

Solubility data are relevant for any modeling efforts related to gas-saturated ("live") crude oil.

Methods:

The measurements were made by the company Eurotechnica GmbH by using a microbalance for detecting methane uptake in the liquid phase (Louisiana Sweet Crude oil from Marlin Platform Dorado) gravimetrically at a given temperature and pressure. The temperature was fixed at 20 °C while pressure was varied from 3-16 MPa.
