Abstract:

The dataset contains the concentrations of low molecular weight organic species observed to partition into the water with dispersant application under varying temperature and pressure conditions, experimentally simulated on the customized oil-water partitioning device.

Purpose:

Investigate the impact of the addition of dispersant to steady-state oil/water partitioning of low molecular weight organic compounds.

Data Parameters and Units:

The worksheet "Partitioning Ratio with Dispersant" includes BTEX partitioning ratios with experiments done with live oil and dispersant, and contains: System Conditions - Methane Charging Pressure (MPa), Operating Pressure (MPa), Temperature (degree C); Partition Ratios (Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, m- and p -Xylene, o- Xylene) - Mean Partition Ratios (N=3), Standard Deviation from mean (N=3). The worksheet "Concentrations with Dispersant" contains: System Conditions - Methane Charging Pressure (MPa), Operating Pressure (MPa), Temperature (degree C); Partition Ratios (Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, m- and p -Xylene, o- Xylene) - Average Concentration in water (ppm), Standard Deviation from mean (N=3), Average Concentration in oil (ppm), Standard Deviation from mean (N=3).

Methods:

The dispersant used was Corexit 9500A. An initial ratio of 1000:1 Oil:Dispersant ratio was used. The system uses continuous flow through, so partitioning was verified to come to equilibrium by running at different flow rates. A typical sample collection interval was approximately 60 minutes, and a full set of data points were collected over 8-9 hours after an overnight setup.

Instruments:

Measurements were made with Agilent 6890N Network Gas Chromatograph and Agilent 5973 inert Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer.
