Abstract:

This dataset includes examining the impacts of near-future CO2 on early life stages of the Mahi-mahi (Coryphaena hippurus). Mahi were exposed to either control or 1900 microatmospheres CO2 directly after spawn and through the first 3 days of development as embryos hatched into yolk sac larvae. Metabolic rate, survival, growth, and yolk sac depletion were quantified at various timepoints throughout development.

Purpose:

To determine the effects of elevated CO2 on metabolic rate, survival, growth, and yolk sac depletion in Mahi-mahi (Coryphaena hippurus) embryos and larvae.

Data Parameters and Units:

The dataset contains 2 Excel files (“Mahi carbon dioxide survival data” and “Mahi carbon dioxide oxygen consumption data”), and folders with jpeg files (“Mahi images for yolk sac measurements carbon dioxide” and “Mahi images for final length carbon dioxide”). The headers are time (seconds), Air saturation (percent) of treatment (Blank, Control, Carbon dioxide), Mortality (percent of mahi alive out of total number) in various Treatment groups (Control, Carbon dioxide). Raw images were taken three days post fertilization and are present in the folder entitled “Mahi images for final length carbon dioxide.” Folders are labelled by Replicate number and treatment. Fish within each folder are numbered sequentially. Raw images were taken at one day post fertilization are shown in “Mahi images for yolk sac measurements carbon dioxide.” Folders are labelled by Replicate number and treatment Fish within each folder are numbered sequentially.
