Abstract:

Using a pendant drop tensiometer the interfacial tensions between an oil pendant drop and an aqueous suspension of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) were measured. Images were taken of the pendant drop over time at 2k by 2k resolution for highly resolved oil-water interfaces. Both equilibrium interfacial tension and transient interfacial tension were measured. EPS was isolated from bacteria Sagitulla and Roseobacter. This dataset contains tif images of interfacial tension measurements between oil and suspensions of purified EPS from Sagitulla stellata and Roseobacter species.

Purpose:

To determine the interfacial tension between an oil droplet and suspension of EPS.

Data Parameters and Units:

The folder ‘Interfacialtension_R6_0010_R6.x802.0000010’ contains subfolders as follows: ‘eps_crude size’ which contains 2 subfolders: ‘5mg_per_liter_roseobacter’ containing images in tif and mat files and ‘10mg_per_liter_sagitulla’ size containing images in tif and mat files.

Methods:

A suspension of purified EPS from Roseobacter (5 mg/L) and Sagitulla (10 mg/L) were used for this analysis. This suspension was used for analysis using pendant drop tensiometer. Images are taken of the pendant drop over time at 2k by 2k resolution for highly resolved oil-water interfaces.
