Abstract:

Simulated spatial distribution of the abundance and biomass of simulated populations of eight Gulf reef fish species. The model was run for twenty years, with populations reported at the middle (yearday 180) of each year. This dataset is one of a suite of eight for which statistical methods and machine learning algorithms were used to simulate various measures of fish population health, including abundance surveys, mortality estimates, and fisheries catch and effort reports. Purpose:

To simulate annual fish abundance and biomass in fishery populations.

Data Parameters and Units:

Two text files are included in the zipped file: one called "SpatialAbundance.txt" which reports the number of fish each year for each species in each grid cell, and a second called "SpatialBiomass.txt" which reports the weight of fish each year for each species in each grid cell. The two files have the following fields: TimeStep = the simulation day when the abundance was reported. Time steps are daily, thus every 365 days a new year begins. Species = the fish species for which abundance is reported using the following two letter codes: RG=red grouper, GG=gag grouper, MS=mutton snapper, RS=red snapper, GT=gray triggerfish, VS=vermilion snapper, YG=yellowedge grouper, and TF=tilefish. X = the grid cell location reference for the x-axis. Can be converted to longitude using the conversion formulas at the bottom of this parameter list Y = the grid cell location reference for the y-axis. Can be converted to latitude using the conversion formulas at the bottom of this parameter list The "SpatialAbundance.txt" file has an additional field called "Abundance" which reports the number of fish of that species in that grid cell at the middle of each year, while the "SpatialBiomass.txt" file has an additional field called "Biomass" which reports the weight (in kilograms) of fish of that species in that grid cell at the middle of each year.
