Abstract:

Spatial data on the number of days fishing in each grid cell by each fleet (handline and longline simulated vessels) each year of the simulation. This dataset is one of a suite of eight for which statistical methods and machine learning algorithms were used to simulate various measures of fish population health, including abundance surveys, mortality estimates, and fisheries catch and effort reports. Purpose:

Fisheries effort simulation output data on handline and longline vessels.

Data Parameters and Units:

Multiple files are incorporated in the zipped folder. The files are labeled as follows "SpatialFishingEffort_GEAR_year_XX.txt", where GEAR equals either "Handline" or "Longline" and XX represents the simulation year (from year 1 to year 19). File headers are as follows: X = the grid cell location reference for the x-axis. Can be converted to longitude using the conversion formulas at the bottom of this parameter list Y = the grid cell location reference for the y-axis. Can be converted to latitude using the conversion formulas at the bottom of this parameter list Effort_numDays = number of days the fleet fished in that location that particular year To Convert X and Y values to Longitude and Latitude respectively, use the following parameters and conversion equations: minLongitude = -98 maxLongitude = -81 minLatitude = 24 maxLatitude = 31 GridWidth = 1021 GridHeight = 421 Longitude = minLongitude + ((X/GridWidth) * (maxLongitude - minLongitude)) Latitude = minLatitude + ((Y/GridHeight) * (maxLatitude - minLatitude))
