Abstract:

The data pertains to continued efforts after "Clay nanotube Pickering emulsions for oil spill bioremediation and catalytic formulations" at Louisiana Tech University in Nano-assembly research group. The experiments and data are performed and collected, respectively at the Institute for Micromanufacturing located within the university. It expands the application of silane-modified halloysite nanotubes in oil spill bioremediation by encapsulating active hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria inside 1-2 mm large clay marbles and forming a small microcosm of biological activity inside the marbles. The dried marbles are available to be applied to an oil spill at a later date. Purpose:

The purpose of this project was to investigate a method of incorporating hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria inside halloysite clay marbles in order to provide a favorable environment that will allow bacteria to remediate oil in the environment.

Data Parameters and Units:

The dataset contains images and data used to create the various figures/graphs in the associated paper, Panchal et al., 2019. Please note that the figure number used in the data file/folder naming convention refers to the figures in the associated paper as well. Main parameters: Sample, Time, Fluorescent intensity (dimensionless), Optical density (dimensionless), Diameter (um).

Methods:

Bacterial culture enumeration using petri dish culture, counting, and by using active metabolite dyes like resazurin, fluorescein diactetate, and acid red. Halloysite clay was modified by performing a grafting reaction of octadecyltrimethoxysilane on halloysite tubes in toluene solvent under reflux apparatus.
