Abstract:

Data from 21 sampling stations within the Barataria Bay region of Louisiana. The data record the densities and abundance of two marsh invertebrate species (Uca spp. and Littoraria irrorata) across varying levels of oiling impact due to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. These data were collected from May to October, 2017. Similar data for 2012-2014 are located in GRIIDC dataset R2.x211.000:0002 and data from 2014-2016 are located in GRIIDC dataset R5.x282.000:0003.

Purpose:

To monitor marsh recovery through keystone species over time following the BP oil spill.

Sampling date (MM/DD/YYYY); Months after spill; Treatments (RF=reference, MD=moderate oiling, HV=heavy oiling); Treatment stations; Repetitions; Periwinkle density (number/m^2); Periwinkle all specimens shell length (mm); Periwinkle juveniles shell length (<6mm, mm); Periwinkle subadults shell lengths (6-13mm, mm); Periwinkle small adults shell length (14-20mm, mm); Periwinkle large adults shell length (>20mm, mm); Fiddler crab burrow (number/m^2); Fiddler crab burrow diameter (mm) blank cells indicate that the replicate and treatment were not sampled at that time point (example: 21 Station Crab Burrow Diameter 5/27/2017 all stations, all replicates). Some of the sampling events don’t have abundance data for the fiddler crab burrows, as when in the field for the sampling event the water was high on the marsh surface and burrows were not available for sampling.
