Abstract:

This dataset is based on archives from the high resolution (1/50 deg) GoM-HYCOM model, which gives details on the fronts and filaments associated with the Mississippi River plume dynamics, as well as GoM meso-scale processes relevant to this study (in particular the LC frontal dynamics and their influence on plume transport). The model simulation covers the entire Gulf of Mexico and is in progress.

Purpose:

Data was generated as model output to aid in the study of GoM circulation processes.

Data Parameters and Units:

Current (uvl and wl, m/sec), Temperature (sst, deg C), Salinity (sss, pss), Sea Surface Height (ssh, m) The model uses the Mercator projection which is a constant longitudinal grid spacing in degrees but latitudinal grid spacing in degree varying with cos(latitude) to give a square grid cell in meters. The coordinate at the bottom left corner is 98.00W & 18.09165N. These daily files are snapshots at 12Z.
