Abstract:

Control beach sand sediments were collected at St. George Island on June 6, 2010. This dataset contains PAH and TPH data measured in cores 1,2,and 3. In order to include the oxidized hydrocarbons potentially present in the beach, total organic carbon was measured in cores 4, 5, and 6. This dataset supports the publication: Huettel, M., Overholt, W.A., Kostka, J.E., Hagan, C., Kaba, J., Wells, W.B., & Dudley, S. (2018). Purpose:

The beach at St. George Island, Florida was not directly hit by the oil slicks generated by the Deepwater Horizon accident. Before the oil could come close to St. George Island, reference cores of unpolluted sediments were collected for comparison with the oil contaminated sediments collected at Pensacola beach.
