Abstract:

This dataset provides an inventory of the coastal Tabanidae (horsefly and deer fly species) within Louisiana. Tabanidae are important bioindicators and apex predators within the soil.

Purpose:

To inventory coastal Tabanidae (horsefly deer fly species) in Louisiana to act as baseline data for future studies and to identify how species differ throughout the state.

Data Parameters and Units:

Date Trap Placed (mm/dd/yyy), Date Trap Picked Up(mm/dd/yyy), Parish, Site, Latitude (decimal degrees), Longitude (decimal degrees), Time Trap Set (hh:mm AM/PM), Time Trap Picked Up (hh:mm AM/PM), Species Abundances.

Methods:

Horseflies and deerflies in the family Tabanidae were collected from coastal Louisiana using canopy traps in 2019. Flies were identified using the keys of Tidwell (1973) and were then pinned.
