Abstract:

Some of the horseflies keying to the greenhead horsefly (Tabanus nigrovitattus) in Tidwell's Key to Louisiana Tabanidae may be cryptic species. In order to separate congenerics a dataset was created to explore variation in Tabanid length across salinity zones at different times of the year.

Purpose:

To explore variation in Tabanid length across salinity zones at different times of the year.

Date (mm/dd/yyy), Bay (Barataria/Caillou), Salinity Zone (Low/Mid/High), Latitude (decimal degrees), Longitude (decimal degrees), Length of Specimen Keying to Tabanus nigrovittatus (millimeters)

Methods:

Individuals keying to the greenhead horsefly (Tabanus nigrovittatus) were collected from low, mid, and high salinity zones using canopy traps baited with dry ice from 2019-05-16 to 2019-09-11. Insects were then pinned and measured using digital calipers.
