Abstract:

This dataset contains accession numbers for selected bioindicator species of salinity zones in coastal Louisiana which lead to published CO1 and ITS2 sequences in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database.

Purpose:

The purpose of this dataset was to sequence ecologically important bioindicator insects to ease the burden of taxonomical experience for identification of these species.

Methods:

DNA was extracted using DNEasy blood and tissue kits (Qiagen, Germantown, MD). Two loci, the CO1 and 18S regions, were amplified for each species. The CO1 locus was amplified using the LepF1/MLepF1-Rev primer set (Brandon-Mong et al. 2015). The ITS2 region of the 18S locus was amplified using the ITS3/ITS4 primers (Earth Microbiome). The amplified DNA was submitted to the LSU Genomics Facility for sequencing. Forward and reverse sequences were aligned using the Genious software and the DNA barcodes were submitted to the NCBI database.
