Abstract:

Dolphin morbillivirus has been documented to cause mass mortality events of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in the southeastern United States. We assessed 72 dolphins during health assessments performed during 2016-2017 in Barataria Bay to assess exposure levels within the population. Morbillivirus serology was performed on blood samples to assess morbillivirus titer levels. Samples with positive test results at dilutions of 1:16 or higher were classed as positive for morbillivirus antibody.

Purpose:

The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of positive morbillivirus titers in bottlenose dolphins in Barataria Bay, Louisiana.

Data Parameters and Units:

Animal ID, Capture.date (DD-Mon-YY), Latitude (decimal degrees), Longitude (decimal degrees), morbillivirus test result (outcome and titer, as appropriate).

Methods:

Serology detects the presence of antibodies in serum samples. This dataset was generated using a serum neutralization test for Cetacean Morbillivirus (CMV) conducted by the University of Georgia Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in Athens, GA (test code SMORBCMVSN).
