Abstract:

Data collected in the University of Miami ASIST tank during 2016-2017 and 2021. Sensor included particle image velocimetry (PIV) images (tif) and velocity fields, pitot/hot-film measurements of velocity, wave height measurements, and shadowgraph images with PIV renditions.

Purpose:

Investigation of the impact of oil on air-sea transfer processes, and of air-sea transfer processes on oil.

Data Parameters and Units:

Wind speed (m/s), water speed (m/s), water height (m), spray concentration and velocity profiles.

Methods:

Laboratory measurements included particle imaging and hot-film anemometry (calibrated against Pitot).

Instruments:

1) Hotfilm. Height, 16cm above mean water level, co-located with Pitot. Hotfilm calibration following locally linear approximation of Kings Law using Pitot. Three wind speeds: 35 Hz : 11.85 m/s (16cm), equivalent to 22m/s at 10m using Smith 1980 drag 45 Hz : 15.18 m/s (16cm), equivalent to 32.5m/s at 10m using Smith 1980 drag 50 Hz : 16.84 m/s (16cm), equivalent to 39.8m/s at 10m using Smith 1980 drag Files are ASCII, 1000Hz sampling, two columns representing horizontal and vertical velocity components. File name references Fan speed (35, 45 or 50) Oil data only 2) Particle images, oil cases, each in a separate folder.
