Abstract:

We investigated the heterotrophic metabolism of acetate, methanol and methylamine in sediments of northern Gulf of Mexico to elucidate the role of C1 and C2 low molecular weight compounds as carbon or energy source for benthic microbial communities. The dataset reports sediment geochemistry and rates of methanogenesis, substrate oxidation or assimilation measured with radiotracers from three study sites. Data were collected on cruise EN559 on three dates May 30th, June 9th, and June 16th, 2015 on sites GC600, GC767, and Taylor Energy-1.

Methods:

Methanol, methyamine, and acetate oxidation and turnover were measured using radiotracer methods. Experimental incubations were conducted at in situ temperature and pressure unless otherwise noted. Samples were incubated for 72 hours

Samples analyzed in this dataset were collected on ECOGIG cruise EN559 in May-June 2015. Geochemical data presented here is also included in in GRIIDC dataset R4.x268.000:0003.
