Abstract:

Data were collected in the northern Gulf of Mexico from September to October, 2016 using instrument packages deployed on a deep sea lander. The lander was deployed at in an active hydrocarbon seepage field. Oxygen data was collected using optode sensors inside and out of a chimney to look at the total oxygen consumption (TOU) of the sediment. Water current (speed and direction) and temperature data were also collected to look at the point sources.

Purpose:

Using this data we can track methane plumes and looks at the effect of the surrounding community and water column. This data can also be used to target grab samples for further detailed analysis and calculate total oxygen consumption (TOU).
