Abstract:

This dataset contains the analysis of sediment collected during the R/V Endeavor cruise EN586 in the northern Gulf of Mexico from 2016-07-26 to 2016-08-14 at cold-seep and control sites. Measurements include pH, salinity, the concentration of pore water dissolved nutrients, dissolved and particulate organics, and inorganics, cations, anions, and dissolved gases. Process rate measurements were also measured, including methane oxidation rate and sulfate reduction rate. The data for this cruise is also available in the R2R repository: http://www.rvdata.us/catalog/EN586.

Purpose:

The purpose of this dataset is to assess the impacts of the Deepwater Horizon blowout on sediment geochemistry and microbial process rates on fallout sites and compare these impacts to naturally occurring oil and gas seeps.
