Abstract:

This dataset contains the MODIS surface oil products (with thickness of >0 but <0.08 um as sheen, 0.8-8 um as thin and >8um as thick) for all the golden days between April and July of 2010.

Purpose:

The purpose of this dataset is to classify the oil thickness after the Deep Water Horizon using optical remote sensing method.

Data Parameters and Units:

This dataset is organized into sub-directories based on the type of output generated. The contents of the four sub-folders are: cloud: the cloud masks for each day; artifact: the noise data and stripes of MODIS images; footprint: the regions not covered by cloud, artifact and land; oil: classified oil thickness products, with thickness of >0 but <0.08 um as sheen, 0.8-8 um as thin and >8um as thick; There is a shp folder under each sub-folder, which contains the shapefiles for the corresponding products. Shapefile names are identical to corresponding images and each have the following parameters: Class_Name (text); Class_Id (integer); Parts (integer); Length (degrees); Area (degrees); Area_km2 (sq km);
