Abstract:

This dataset includes the CTD data acquired in the Gulf of Mexico aboard the R/V Weatherbird II cruise WB-0816 from 2016-08-05 to 2016-09-09. Also included are the locations and grab and multicore sediment samples and their allotments between investigators. Data were collected between 2016-08-07 and 2016-09-09.

Purpose:

The goal of this cruise is to evaluate the extent of fish disease and to characterize the distribution and fate of oiled sediment at sites on the continental shelf and slope of the northern Gulf of Mexico.

Data Parameters and Units:

1) CTD data - Depth [salt water depth, m]; Temperature [deg C]; Conductivity [S/m]; Salinity [PSU]; Oxygen Saturation [umol/kg]; Oxygen, SBE 43 [umol/kg]; Fluorescence, WET Labs CDOM [mg/m^3]; Fluorescence, WET Labs ECO-AFL/FL [mg/m^3]; Turbidity, WET Labs ECO [NTU]; Density [density, kg/m^3]; Average Sound Velocity [Chen-Millero, m/s]; PAR/Irradiance, Biospherical/Licor; Sound Velocity [Chen-Millero, m/s]; Altimeter [m]; Latitude [deg]; Longitude [deg]. CTD files are named based on the station where the data were collected or based on a pre-cruise equipment test. If the file name is based on the station where the data were collected, then the naming convention is - (if there are more than casts at the station). For example, file WB0816SIXW75008152016cast1 indicates that the cruise = WB0816, where the station = SIXW750, the date = 08152016 and the cast = cast1. 2) Sediment sample location data - Site # [station location, ID]; Collection Date [mm/dd/yyyy]; Latitude [degree minute]; Longitude [degree minute]; Water Depth [meter]; Core Sample Label [text]; Allocation [text]; Length [mm]. Correction note: Longitude for the site of core "SL30-60" is incorrect, and "14 30.101" should be "94 30.101".
