Abstract:

Measurements of the density of methane-saturated Louisiana Sweet Crude oil (LSC) at different pressures and a temperature of 20 °C. Values of the density of pure LSC at varying pressure are given for comparison. Two methods (magnetic suspension balance and oscillating tube) were applied.

Purpose:

The experiments have been done to get the physical properties of methane-saturated LSC as function of pressure. These data is required for several theoretical determinations, simulations and the comparison of experimental data, e.g. rise velocity, with theory as well as for the correction of experimentally determined interfacial tension of methane-saturated crude oil and artificial seawater.

Methods:

Density of methane-saturated Louisiana Sweet Crude Oil (LSC) was measured through the Magnetic Suspension Balance Method and the Oscillating Tube Method. The volume of LSC used is approx. 1 mL each for both oscillating tube (OT) and magnetic suspension balance (MSB) methods. Saturation method: pressurization of the LSC sample with methane at the desired experimental pressure until equilibrium was reached using a high-pressure pump / compressor.
