Abstract:

This project was undertaken to evaluate the fecundity, fertility, hatch success and larval survival of fish (Florida pompano) upon exposure to chemically enhanced water accommodated fraction (CEWAF) of south Louisiana crude oil. Hence, fish were exposed to CEWAF in tanks for a specified period of time and evaluated in terms of percentage of eggs that were fertilized, the percentage of fertilized eggs that hatched and the percentage of survival. Protein content and reproductive steroid concentrations were also measured.

Purpose:

To determine reproductive success after acute exposure to CEWAF of south Louisiana crude oil and Corexit 9500.

Methods:

All Florida pompano used in the experiment were spawned and reared at Mote's Aquaculture Research Park. Details on how stock solutions of CEWAF and dilutions were made are provided in the data file itself. Concentrations of proteins and reproductive steroids were assessed with the use of ELISA kits (Cusabio E2, Biosense Vtg).
