Abstract:

Illumina high-throughput RNA sequencing technology was used to sequence, assemble and annotate the transcriptome of three tissues; liver, gonad, and head kidney from Sciaenops ocellatus.

Purpose:

Identifying and annotating red drum transcriptomes from different tissues provides basic functional genomic information for each tissue and enhances the opportunities for genetic improvement of red drum for aquaculture production, stock enhancements of wild populations and for future studies using red drum as a model.

Methods:

Male fish were reared from broodstock at the Mote Marine Aquaculture park. The male that received an IP injection consisted of 1 part southern Louisiana crude oil to two parts corn oil at 2 ml/kg weight of fish.
