Abstract:
Select monohydroxylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) metabolites were measured in three marine teleosts, red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus), Florida pompano (Trachinotus carolinus) and southern flounder (Paralichthys lethostigma) to evaluate species specific metabolic differences. Fish were exposed to DWH crude oil by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injections at time 0 and 48 hours with bile sampling events at 24 and 72 hours post injection. Biliary levels of monohydroxylated naphthalene and phenanthrene metabolites were confirmed and quantified using gas chromatography triple quadrapole mass spectrometry.

This dataset contains two files. The csv file titled “GRIIDC IP dataset 12Dec16_Pulster” contains metabolite measurements described in the abstract. The csv file titled “Biometrics_treatemt_injection_info” contains treatment times and injection volumes. The following is a brief summary describing the treatment process: Fish were injected at 2 ml of crude oil per kg of fish with a 2:1 (crude oil: corn oil) carrier matrix. There were two non-injected fish from each species sacrificed at time=0 to establish normal baseline values. There were four fish from each species injected with the crude/corn oil mixture and four fish from each species injected with corn oil only. T=0, Control (No Injections)- Sacrifice 2 fish/species, Control (Corn Oil Only) and Crude/Corn Oil- Inject 4 fish/species T=24 Control (Corn Oil Only) and Crude/Corn Oil- Sacrifice 2 fish/species T=48 Control (Corn Oil Only) and Crude/Corn Oil- Reinject 2 fish/species T=72 Control (Corn Oil Only) and Crude/Corn Oil- Sacrifice remaining 2 fish/species The following is a list of all data parameters and units of measurement for “GRIIDC IP dataset 12Dec16_Pulster.csv”: MAP ID – Unique identifier (text); C-Image ID – Unique identifier (text); Species – Sample species (Florida Pompano, Red Drum, Southern Flounder); Treatment – treatment type (Control, Corn Oil, 24 Hour Exposure, 72 Hour Exposure, Red Drum Control, Southern Flounder Control); Weight – sample weight (kg); Length – sample length (mm); Sex – sample gender (male/female); Time – Exposure duration (hours); Monohydroxylated Metabolites (1-Naphthol, 2-Naphthol, 1-Phenanthrol, 2-Phenanthrol, 3-Phenanthrol, 4-Phenanthrol, 9-Phenanthrol) – post-injection monohydroxylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) metabolites measurements (ng/mL); The following is a list of all data parameters and units of measurement for “Biometrics_treatemt_injection_info.csv”: Species – Unique identifier (text); Fish ID – Unique identifier (text) includes species (RF=Red drum, FP=Florida pompano, or SF=Southern flounder), fish number, and if applicable code (a=no bile/insufficient volume to analyze, b=dead at 72 hrs, c=dead at 24 hrs); Weight – sample weight (kg); Length – sample length (mm); Sex – sample gender (male/female); Exposure Type (Control, Corn Oil, Crude and Corn Oil); Injection Time (T) and Treatment [T=0hr Crude Oil (mL), T=0hr Corn Oil (mL), T=48hr Crude Oil (mL), T=48hr Corn Oil (mL)];
