Abstract:

This data-set includes data from Large-eddy simulations (LESs) of Langmuir turbulence with full-depth LC in a wind-driven shear current and Single-water-column, Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes simulations with the new K-Profile parameterization (KPP).

Purpose:

This data set is developed to help parameterize turbulent eddy viscosity of Langmuir turbulence in shallow coastal shelves.

Velocity (Averaged) (m/s), Velocity instantaneous (m/s), eddy viscosity (m^2/sec), Turbulent intensities, TKE budgets, Reynolds stress (LES), Reynolds stress (RANS), KPP-Time scale, Velocity gradients Turbulent Langmuir number: This is a dimensionless parameter Wave length: The wavelength is given in terms of water column height (H) Reynolds stress: This quantity is non-dimensionalized with u*^2 where u* is wind stress friction velocity (m2/s2). Time: Time is non-dimensionalized with delta/u*, where delta is water column half-depth and u* is wind stress friction velocity. TKE production: This quantity is non-dimesionalized with u*^3/delta where u* is wind stress friction velocity and delta is water column half-depth. Turbulent transport: This quantity is non-dimesionalized with u*^3/delta. SGS transport: This quantity is non-dimesionalized with u*^3/delta. Viscous diffusion: This quantity is non-dimesionalized with u*^3/delta. Pressure transport: This quantity is non-dimesionalized with u*^3/delta. Viscous dissipation: This quantity is non-dimesionalized with u*^3/delta. SGS dissipation: This quantity is non-dimesionalized with u*^3/delta. Langmuir production: This quantity is non-dimesionalized with u*^3/delta. U1u1: This quantity is non-dimensionalized with u*^2. U2u2: This quantity is non-dimensionalized with u*^2. U3u3: This quantity is non-dimensionalized with u*^2. Time scale gamma: This quantity is non-dimensionalized with delta/u*. Bottom wall normal coordinates: This quantity is non-dimensionalized with delta. C coefficient: This is a dimensionless parameter Time average velocity: This quantity is non-dimensionalized with u* Log law: The log-law is defined as u/u* = (1/kappa)*ln(z+) + B where u is mean downwind velocity, u* is wind stress friction velocity, kappa = 0.4, B ranges between 5 and 8, z+ = z u*/nu where z is distance to the bottom of the coastal ocean and nu is kinematic viscosity. B coefficient: This is a dimensionless parameter. Standard kpp: KPP refers to K-profile turbulence parameterization. Standard k-epsilon: k-epsilon refers to the k-epsilon turbulence parameterization. Average velocity gradient: This quantity has been non-dimensionalized with u*/delta where u* is wind stress friction velocity and delta is water column half-depth.
