Abstract:

This dataset reports turbulence measurements. Microstructure measurements were taken to quantify turbulence near the drifter deployments of the Submesoscale Processes and Lagrangian Analysis on the Shelf (SPLASH) experiment on board the R/V F.G. Walton Smith cruise WS17107 in the northern Gulf of Mexico from 2017-04-19 to 2017-04-25. The data were collected using a VMP (Vertical Microstructure Profiler) instrument. The cruise WS17107 was led by chief scientist Dr. Brian Haus. Additional information about this cruise can be found in the R2R repository: http://www.rvdata.us/catalog/WS17107.

Study how turbulence kinetic energy dissipation rate change near the water surface.

Data Parameters and Units:

Cast number, latitude, and longitude (decimal degrees and degrees minutes), time (Month dd, yyyy HH:MM:SS, UTC), record number, pressure (dbar), turbulence kinetic energy dissipation rate (W/kg) for sensor 1 and 2.
