Abstract:

This dataset reports CTD measurements. CTD measurements were taken along with turbulence measurements near the drifter deployments of the LASER experiment on board the R/V F.G. Walton Smith cruise WS16015 in the Gulf of Mexico from 2016-01-29 to 2016-01-31. The data were collected near the FRONT phenomena, in deep water and shallow water by Vertical Microstructure Profiler (VMP) instrument. The data were collected from 100 m depth to the water surface. The cruise WS16015, led by chief scientist Dr. Eric D'Asaro, objective was to study submesoscale dynamics, their interactions, and their impact on transport. The dataset contains the coordinates, date and time, conductivity, pressure, and temperature of 40 VMP casts.

Purpose:

Study how ocean features change throughout the mixed layer.

Cast number, latitude, and longitude (decimal degrees), time (Month dd, yyyy HH:MM:SS, UTC), temperature (degrees C), conductivity (1/S), pressure (dbar). The dataset contains the cruise documentation.
