Abstract:

Infrared Sea Surface Temperature (SST) images using an infrared camera and surface roughness images using visible cameras looking at the sun glint were collected using cameras on-board the Partenavia (P.68) airplane at an approximately altitude of 1000m during LASER experiment on February 11, 2016. Images were georectified using the onboard motion unit (IMU). The light intensity was high-pass filtered to remove scales larger than about 100-200m (depending on the incidence angle). The contrast of light intensity was calculated as the ratio of the high pass filtered data by the raw data. Composite maps were created using only parts of the images with specific sun and sensor angles. SST images were georectified using the onboard motion unit (IMU). The SST was not corrected from the possible drift of the instrument. Additional correction using the additional calibrated KT19 sensor was not included here. Composite maps were created using every possible image acquired during two airplane passes (19:10 - 19:20 UTC and 19:24 - 19:31 UTC). File airplane_20160211.mat contains the flight information: Longitude [lon_gps, decimal degrees], latitude [lat_gps, decimal degrees], time [tim_gps, Julian days], yaw [yaw_gps, degrees], pitch [pit_gps, degrees], rol [rol_gps, degrees] and altitude [alt_gps', meters above the geoid]. File mosaic_20160211_roughness.mat contains the sunglint sea surface roughness composites maps: longitude and latitude [decimal degrees], roughness_20160211T191803 at 191803 UTC (time of the end of the pass), roughness_20160211T193213 at 193213 UTC (time of the end of the pass). Each roughness file contains 2 fields, first one for reflective facet angles inside the ellipse, second one for angles outside the ellipse. File mosaic_20160211T1912_sst.mat contains the SST composite maps for the pass at 19:12 UTC (average time of the pass), longitude and latitude [decimal degrees] and SST [degrees C]. File mosaic_20160211T1925_sst.mat contains the SST composite maps for the pass at 19:25 UTC (average time of the pass).
