Abstract:

This dataset lists the proportional fatty acid composition for invertebrate species tissue samples collected in 2014 as a component of the Seaside Sparrow project within the Coastal Waters Consortium. Zero values represent measurements. The samples were analyzed at the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg, MB, Canada). Information gathered at the time of collection for each sample in this dataset are provided in a subset file of GRIIDC dataset R4.x264.000:0068 (the 2014 Invertebrate Sample Key) by referencing the DATABASE ID.

Purpose:

This dataset summarizes the fatty acid composition of multiple invertebrate consumers in southern Louisiana salt marshes. Fatty acids profiles of consumers reflect the fatty acids of their diet items. Therefore, these data can be used to understand predator-prey interactions.

File: R4.x264.000-0069_2014_Invertebrate_FattyAcid_sub3.xlsx DATABASE ID: code assigned to every sample collected Tissue: measured in whole-body or muscle Fatty acid composition of each sample, measured as concentrations for different fatty acids. Each fatty acid is identified by its nomenclature (ug fatty acid/mg dry weight) File: subset_R4.x264.000:0068_2014_Invertebrate_SampleKey.xlsx A subset of the complete 2014 Invertebrate Sample Key file (GRIIDC dataset R4.x264.000:0068), containing only the samples in the Fatty Acid dataset. FIELD ID: code assigned in the field for each sample DATABASE ID: code assigned to samples in the lab Year Collected: Year of collection Month Collected: Month of collection Site ID: names assigned by our group to different marsh sites Latitude: in decimal degrees Longitude: in decimal degrees Gear: type of gear used to collect the sample Common Name: generally used name Order/Family: classification Tissue Collected: type of tissue (whole-body, muscle or leaf) collected

Methods:

Fatty acids are expressed as concentration (ug fatty acid/mg dry weight) and are not corrected for blanks. The standards used include Supelco (Supelco 47885-U) and NU CHEKPREP INC GLC61100MG. Some duplicate samples were processed for quality control purposes (Database IDs Cricket062014_O3, Cricket062014_U1, Deer fly062014_O2, Leaf hopper062014_O6).
