Abstract:

On-board expendable bathythermograph (XBT) measurements were taken in the Northern Gulf of Mexico from June 24-July 1, 2015 aboard the R/V Pelican while collecting visual and acoustic data. A Lockheed Martin Sippican MK21 with a hand-held launcher was used to collect temperature profiles for sound speed profile calculation.

Purpose:

Temperature profiles were collected to calculate sound speed profiles which will be used to determine sound propagation parameters during cetacean acoustic data collection.

Data Parameters and Units:

File contains a spreadsheet describing each text file including site, date (dd-Mon-yr), time (local CST), latitude (DD MM.mm), longitude (DD MM.mm), and serial number (corresponds to the text file name). Each text file contains the following variables: time (seconds from deployment), resistance (ohms), depth (m), temperature (degrees celsius), and calculated sound speed (m/s).

Instruments:
