Abstract:

A real-time buoy was deployed to test the development of Environmental Acoustic Recording System (EARS) buoy satellite-transmitted data packages. Deployed at 28° 23.8352' N, -88° 59.2394' W in 1037 m of water, the buoy consists of two hydrophones that record onto two paired, single-channel EARS recording systems sampling at 192 kHz each stored in 16-bit proprietary binary format. There are three datasets, each containing 37,616 files.

Purpose:

A real-time buoy was deployed to test the development of EARS buoy satellite-transmitted data packages.

Data Parameters and Units:

Raw acoustic files are recorded in a proprietary format. After extraction of the header info and conversion to wav format, parameters include timestamp [MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS], voltage [V], and sample number. Filenames contain the following information: 7dddFFFF.BBD 7 = year 2017 for LADC-GEMM year 1 data collection event, ddd = three-digit year day FFFF = hexadecimal index number BB = buoy number, 90 D = disk number, 1 to 3
