Abstract:

On-board expendable bathythermograph (XBT) measurements were taken in the northern Gulf of Mexico from 2017-10-12 to 2017-10-14 aboard the R/V Acadiana during a buoy deployment cruise. This dataset contains three temperature and sound speed profiles and site location listing.

Purpose:

This dataset contains XBT temperature profiles collected for sound speed calculation.

Data Parameters and Units:

Profiles: time [s], resistance [ohm], depth [m], temperature [degrees C], sound speed [m/s]; XBT coordinates: site, date [MM/DD/YY], time (CST, [HH:MM]), latitude [degree minutes], longitude [degree minutes], serial number [XXXXXX].

Methods:

A Lockheed Martin Sippican MK21 with a hand-held launcher was used to collect temperature profiles for sound speed profile calculation.
