Abstract:

During the summer of 2016, 6 dissolved oxygen (DO)/temperature instruments were deployed on the Fisheries Oceanography in Coastal Alabama (FOCAL mooring). The instruments collected high resolution data on the vertical structure of the temperature and DO through the water column between 2016-07-20 and 2016-08-19 in support of the summer CONCORDE consortium sampling program. This site is associated with a small coastal ocean observing system located at 30°05.410'N, 88°12.694'W, 25 kilometers southwest of the mouth of Mobile Bay, Alabama, that the Dauphin Island Sea Lab has been operating. The DISL mooring is located in 20 m of water.

Purpose:

The objective of this ongoing research is to identify the influence of fluvial water and its suspended particulate matter on coastal regions including the ecosystem and its susceptibility to oil. This particular study aims to understand the nature of hypoxia dynamics and its influence on biological movement and behavior on the shelf. Hydrographic surveys were conducted with a CTD.

Methods:

The RBR sample once per second – Membrane sensor – OxyGuard type. The HOBO samples once every 2 minutes - Optical sensor.

Instruments:

The instruments used were RBR Duo (temperature and dissolved oxygen) and HOBO U26-001 (dissolved oxygen).
