Abstract:

A shipboard LiDAR system was operated off the bow of the R/V research cruise Pelican in November 2015 to measure the near surface optical polarized backscatter.

Purpose:

To capture bio-optical layers in the upper portion of the water column.

Data Parameters and Units:

Data consists of netCDF files containing up to 30 minutes of data for either the co-linear and cross-linear polarization waveforms in watts. Methods:

LiDAR waveform data was processed from the raw counts from two linear receivers (Rx3: linear vertical and Rx4: linear horizontal) and four linear vertical transmitters (EOM1, EOM2, EOM4, EOM0). Processing included conversion of digitizer counts to volts, fixed pattern noise correction, removal of baseline overshoot, corrections for PMT gain differences and large signal compression, and R-squared losses.
