Abstract:

Distributions of selected geochemical tracers during CONCORDE Fall 2015 field experiment. Data are from CTD/rosette system on R/V Point Sur (cruise PS1612, cruise DOI: https://doi.org/10.7284/909421) , collected 2015-10-29 - 2016-11-05). Tracers determined include nutrients, oxygen, oxygen and hydrogen isotopic composition of the water, selected trace elements, and chlorophyll. This information was obtained to help constrain water and nutrient sources as well as mixing.

Purpose:

Data are ancillary to the CONCORDE fall 2015 field experiment and are being used to constrain fresh water sources to the study region, find evidence of submarine groundwater discharge, and constrain biological productivity. Data will be utilized in CONCORDE synthetic model.

Data Parameters and Units:

Station, Type, Date (MM/DD/YYYY), Latitude (decimal degrees), Longitude (decimal degrees), Depth (m), Salinity (PSS-78), Temperature (deg C), and Dissolved oxygen (µmol/kg; Winkler calibrated) from CTD. Dissolved nutrients (nitrate+nitrite, phosphate, nitrite, ammonia, silica; µmol/kg); Dissolved barium (nmol/kg), delta-18-O and D/H of water (per mille, VSMOW), and chlorophyll a (µg/L) from rosette bottle samples.

Methods:

Nutrients were determined at the Dauphin Island Research Lab (DISL) using Skalar Sans 10 autoanalyzer. Water isotopes were determined at USM using a Picarro L-2120i cavity ringdown spectrometer. Dissolved Ba was processed and determined using a sector field ICP-MS similar to Joung and Shiller, 2014 (doi: 10.1016/j.gca.2014.06.021)
